I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dick Voight. He was a great friend of my Uncle, HUGH MAGEE, who left this earth on April 24, 2019. These two pals loved jazz music and knew their way around a good boogie woogie. I remember the record album we had of the Peppermill Jazz Band!
I was trying to track down Dick's number so we could give him a call to let him know and found this obit.
I have fond memories of a conversation I had with Dick back in the mid 80's at my father David's birthday bash. Dick was so fully present. His heart was wide open. He listened to me with such kindness and interest. I was not used to being heard by adults in such a loving way. He hugged me with so much love and that hug has lasted me all these years because I never forgot it. The ripple effect his soul empathy had upon me as a young person is something I continue to draw upon to this day.
I see now, reading Dick's bio that he lived a life of service to others and that he was devoted to supporting the arts as well as people struggling with addiction. To me that spells LOVE.
My deep condolences to his family, to his wife Elisabeth. I will leave my email here and hope you will please be in touch because I would love to talk with you!
With grateful love and sadness,
Martha Magee

I am so sorry that I am only just hearing of Dick's passing. My condolences to Elisabeth and all his family. He will leave such a vacuum in the South Mountain Road community and all the other, many avenues his life, love, music and laughter reached into. I will always be grateful to him for officiating at my mother's memorial, another Rockland stalwart. So sorry I missed the service. I wish you all peace.

I was blessed, privileged, lucky in having Dick in my life for
nearly 70 years. I will always treasure our time together. He
was one of the most generous people to walk this earth and this earth is a better place for his having been here.
His passing leaves a giant spiritual void in my life.

In our family we are all shocked and saddened by Richard's passing and send our love and prayers to his dear wife Elisabeth. I knew him as a great friend, introduced by our neighbor Ed Coury, and over the years he was a constant source of warm-hearted good cheer and caring. We shall always miss him.
