PENN--Arthur. The trustees, faculty, and staff of The New School and The New School for Drama deeply mourn the passing of Arthur Penn. Arthur's deep commitment to higher education was demonstrated by the time, energy, and ideas that he contributed to ensuring the continued vitality of The New School for over five decades. As a trustee from 1995 to 2002, he served in active roles on several committees and was deeply influential in the founding and development of the MFA program at The New School for Drama. We are in debt to his wise and devoted leadership as he guided the Drama school during a time of transition and for his decade long service on the school's Board of Governors. Arthur was a recipient of the University's Distinguished Service Award and in 2007 he received an Honorary Degree from the university. Arthur was a most valued member of our community and his passion and dedication to our mission will continue to have great impact on future generations of students. We convey our heartfelt condolences to his wife Peggy and his family. Bob Kerrey, President, The New School Michael J. Johnston, Chair, Board of Trustees, The New School Robert LuPone, Director, The New School for Drama
