HARTMAN--Rabbi David. The Jewish Theological Seminary joins the family and the Jewish People in mourning the loss of Rabbi David Hartman--prize-winning philosopher and educator, champion of Jewish pluralism, founder of the Shalom Hartman Institute, and teacher and friend to many Jewish and non-Jewish leaders in both Israel and the Diaspora. Rabbi Hartman was a passionate and lifelong student of Torah whose commitment to religious tolerance and dialogue, to a rejuvenated Judaism, to a closer relationship between Israel and the Diaspora, and to the rights of men and women everywhere never wavered. May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Arnold M. Eisen, Chancellor Abby Joseph Cohen, Board Chair
