JOAN FAULKNER

FAULKNER--Joan Hills, of Larchmont, NY, beloved wife of the late Walter T. Faulkner, died October 2, 2013. The daughter of George S. Hills and Alice Shaw Hills, Mrs. Faulkner was born May 6, 1932 in New York, NY, and grew up in New Rochelle. She attended Thornton-Donovan Primary School and Rye Country Day School and graduated from Wheaton College in 1953. She married Walter in 1956, and their marriage lasted 55 years until his death in 2011. Soon after marrying, Joan and Walter moved to Larchmont where they raised four children. She was very active in the community, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Larchmont Public Library, President of the Hommocks PTA, President of the Larchmont-Mamaroneck P-T Council, President of the Junior League of Larchmont, and in many other capacities. During her ten years as Library Chairman, she oversaw a number of significant initiatives, including the major expansion and upgrade of the Library's facilities that was completed in 1995. Her warmth, generosity, friendship and community service will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by sons John of New York, NY, Andy of New York, NY, and George of Pleasantville, NY; daughter Susan of Portland, OR; and eight grandchildren: Stephen, Brian, Elizabeth, Patrick, Anna, Lucy, Henry and Lily. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 9th at 11:00am at Larchmont Avenue Church. Visiting hours are Tuesday, October 8th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont.
