I remember Karl as a man who felt that he had something unique and important to contribute - through his life work in German history research. Karl, may your ideas become inspiration for graduate students who see where you were going with this, and get invested in carrying on your ideas to completion.
On a personal note - I will remember Karl as a man whose heart and soul was forever in love with Noemi. His ability to truely cherish her will never go away. Noemi is a lucky woman to have the experience of such love.

Carl was a unique soul who was in love with his beautiful wife Noemi and with his committment to what is good and honorable in the world. He had a strong but gentle way about him. His love will be missed.

I will forever remember Karl's kind eyes and warm smile. I feel very honored to have been in his life. He became the kind of friend I could share personal stories with and know they were held sacred.
