KATZENBACH--Nicholas deB. The partners of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP mourn the passing of their friend, colleague and client, Nicholas deB. Katzenbach. Mr. Katzenbach served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of IBM during the critical years of IBM's successful defense of one of the most significant antitrust cases ever brought. His extraordinary leadership of that effort followed one of the most distinguished careers in public service, which included serving as the Attorney General of the United States during the height of the Civil Rights movement and as the Under Secretary of State during the Vietnam conflict. Despite his extraordinary accomplishments, Nick was a humble, self-effacing man with a wonderful sense of humor. Our country has lost a great man whose lifelong bravery and commitment to social justice helped shape this country's political history. Our sincere condolences are offered to Nick's wife, Lydia, to his children and grandchildren.
