I loved learning with her at the Academy for Jewish Religion. She taught me much about prayer, liturgy, inclusiveness and being a mensch. May her memory always be for a blessing.

I loved working with Rivka in the creation of the "modern inclusive" book of prayers and explanations, Shaarei Simcha. She was endlessly patient, open, enthusiastic, and intellectually rigorous. I have hoped ever since then that I would have another opportunity to work with her. Her memory is a blessing to all who knew her.

In 2000 I co-chaired the Friday-Sunday portion of the CAJE Conference at Hofstra University in NY. Rivka Haut was one of our Shabbat Scholars in Residence. I had an opportunity to speak with her several times and was impressed by her strength of conviction. The Jewish community has lost a courageous leader.

Rivka was a giant in Israel, a fearless, courageous, visionary leader, who did right in the name of Torah and let nothing and no one stop her in the pursuit of justice. She fought for those victimized by a corrupt rabbinic system, and for Jewish women's full religious rights at the Western Wall, both and all in the name of Torah, whose study was her great joy. She was a loving, brilliant, humor filled friend, whose loss is immense. May her vision and courage continue to guide us, may we prove worthy of her leadership by continuing her struggles, in her vast spirit.
