GRIMALDI--Carol. The family along with the staff of Juliana's mourns the loss of our mother, sister, grandmother, wife, mentor and friend, Carol Grimaldi, who succumbed to cancer on April 10. Carol leaves behind her husband Patsy of 43 years, her beloved children, Rhonda Sobel of Rego Park, NY; Jayne and husband Arthur Bail of Denver, CO; Michael and wife Shelly Sobel of Douglassville, PA and Pat Grimaldi of Forest Hills, NY as well as her grandchildren, Sarah Cozzini; Aaron Sobel; Jacob Bail and Abigail Sobel. In addition she is survived by her brother Marty Abbe; sister-in-law Heather; nephew David and niece Melissa of New York. Born in the Bronx on May 20, 1938, the only daughter of the late Irving and Fannie Abbe, Carol attended PS 77, earned entry to the prestigious High School of Music and Art and graduated from Forest Hills High School. Together with her husband, Patsy Grimaldi, they emerged from retirement in late 2012 to open Juliana's in the same Brooklyn location where they launched legendary Grimaldi's Pizzeria in 1990, which they sold a decade later. Only recently did her illness force her to forsake her seat as President of the Board of Directors of Independence Residences, Inc. (IRI), a not-for-profit human service agency providing quality of life support to individuals with developmental and other disabilities. She will be deeply missed and remembered forever. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to IRI. http://www.in-res.org/
