I met Carolyn at a trade show 25 years where I was selling hats and she jewelry. Her complexities were wonderful as was her humorous and generous spirit. I came across this sad news when I googled her to wish her Happy 70 yesterday.

Carolyn has long been the "luce ultravioletta" for MSA with her bright smile, fun and innovative designs, and fearless input into our industry. Her generosity to MSA through sponsorship and ALA through contributions from her brilliant "Banned Books" bracelet will never be forgotten. She will be missed as she dances elsewhere.

Carolyn was a courageous librarian who worked for everyone's right to read and not be censored. She donated a portion of her profits to the Freedom to Read Foundation

I always enjoyed seeing you when I visited Megan. You were such a cool aunt. I have lots of your pieces and love wearing them and will think of you when I do. May peace be with you.

When I think of Carolyn, I think first of a whirling cloud of purple, her favorite color;then of her dancing, which was perfect and passionate; then of her support for the First Amendment and the Freedom to Read Foundation, which was tireless.

We will miss your smile and spirit.

Just today someone left a follow-up comment on my blog to a comment Carolyn had left before asking Carolyn how she could get ahold of her to buy some of her pieces for her store in Mexico.
When researching why her website was not working I was so sad to discover this.
Sadly that is the second creative person I know that past only one day apart.

I was so sorry to learn of her death . I enjoyed her jewelry and delighted in purchasing some pieces for my oldest niece. But most of all it was a wonderful way to support Freedon to Read Fountain. My sincere condolences to her family. This is a great loss. Patricia M. Hogan, Poplar Creek Library, Streamwood, Illinois

I did not know Carolyn well but she was also a huge dose of sunshine at all the Museum Store Association conferences. She, along with her twinkling rings and flashy bracelets, will be missed.

I am likewise Shocked -- Carolyn was always a great resource and gave generous advice to newbies like me when I first was introduced to her vibrant jewelry and eclectic artistry. She was so forthcoming with information and suggestions....I haven't seen her since 2007 at the Phoenix MSA show...but I know she is definitely a legend and is absolutely irreplaceable! We just heard the very sad news today of Carolyn's passing. The NY Gift Show is not the same without Carolyn's precence in the corner spot. She gave us valuable advice and I will miss her.
