In addition to his professional accomplishments he had an encyclopedic knowledge of Civil War history and was an active member of the New York City and South Florida Civil War Roundtables. He had many other deeply explored intellectual pursuits throughout his life which included opera, classical music, ballet, wine appreciation, extensive travel, current affairs and was also an avid reader of classic literature. One of his great talents, which he maintained until the end, was his ability to engage and learn from people he encountered from all walks of life. He was an active member of Congregation Kneseth Israel in Annapolis. He is survived by his wife Roslyn Zimmerman, brother Arthur Zimmerman, of Sacramento, CA, and daughters Susan (William) Zimmerman of Annapolis, MD, and Gloria (Matthew) Zimmerman of New York City and four grandchildren, Stephen, Natalie, Maxwell and Lucy. He was devoted to his immediate and extended family who all cherished him and will miss him greatly. In the words of his granddaughter, Natalie, "people are only truly gone when the memory of them fades, but Grandpa's memory isn't going anywhere anytime soon."
