FLORENCE D'URSO Obituary

D'URSO--Florence B. Calvary Hospital and Calvary Fund mourn with great sadness the passing of our munificent benefactor and Calvary Fund Board Trustee Emerita, Florence B. D'Urso. Florence was a devout daughter of the Church, and an extraordinary philanthropist. She joined the Calvary Fund Board in 1986, and through the years remained a tireless advocate for the Hospital's patients, families, caregivers, and leadership. She and her late husband, Camillo, were devoted to Calvary, and the Hospital's Florence and Camillo D'Urso Patient Activities Center, where hundreds of patients and families enjoy concerts and holiday celebrations every year, honors their outstanding generosity. In recognition of the D'Ursos' concern for the dignity of human life and service to humanity, in 1987 Calvary presented the Calvary Medal, the Hospital's highest tribute, to Florence and, posthumously, to Camillo. Florence commissioned the Compatior sculpture in 1999, in observance of Calvary's centennial, and in memory of her son, David Francis, and brother, Father Francis Joseph Perkosky, SS, both lost to cancer. Today, the Compatior is the essential symbol of Calvary's compassionate and comprehensive care. Florence will be remembered for her love and knowledge of architecture and art, her life of grace in the face of sorrow, and her deep and abiding faith. We extend our sincere condolences to her daughters Donna and Lisa, her son, Mark, her daughter-in-law, Michelle, her treasured and beloved granddaughter, Michaela Frances, and the entire D'Urso family. Lexingtonsa, and Mark,
I so wish I could come home and be with you all. Aunt Florence was a special woman, and I have so many great memories of our times together. Every mother should have such devoted children as she did. I am sure you all made her so proud!

Love you all,
Gina

Dear Donna, Mark and Lisa,
I am so sorry to learn of your mom's passing. I also know how she was a fighter until the end and now will be in peace from the pain and suffering of her disease. Please know that I have celebrated the Eucharist for the repose of her soul and for your consolation. May the Risen Lord who offers us repose bring her soul and the souls of the faithful departed peace.

Mark, Lisa and Donna, I can't express enough my deepest sympathy for the loss of your mom. She was a woman who stood above the rest. I can see her sitting in the glass porch looking out at her beautiful backyard. I'm sure she is in heaven with Dad and David still keeping an eye on us all.
We all loved her very much. Frank Tavani
