GERALD GLASSER Obituary

GLASSER--Gerald J, PhD, Died June 16th, 2013 after a brief illness. Gerald J. Glasser was a lifelong resident of Westfield, NJ. His higher education at New York University included B.S. in Economics and Statistics, an MBA in statistics, and a PhD in mathematics and statistics. Professor Glasser was a fulltime member of the New York University faculty for 39 years. He held the rank of Professor Emeritus of Business Statistics. He received several teaching awards including the Lindback Foundation award for distinguished teaching and the prestigious Great Teacher award from NYU. Gerry was also a co-founder and principal in a media marketing research company, Statistical Research, Inc. (known as SRI). Prior to the sale of the business in 2001, SRI had upwards of 200 employees engaged in research activities. Clients included all the major television and radio networks, many local stations, advertising agencies and national advertisers. Gerry was a member of a number of professional associations including The American Statistical Association (Fellow), The International Statistical Institute (Fellow), The Institute of Mathematical Statistics, The Operations Research Society of America and the American Society for Quality Control. He was co-author of a text book, Statistics for Business Decisions. He also authored dozens of research and discussion papers published in scientific journals. Gerry was a trustee with the Westfield Foundation, a member of the Board of Governors Union County College and a trustee on the advisory board at Overlook Medical. He was also chairman of the Overlook Foundation from 2008-2010. Gerry was president of a family charity foundation, The Thomas Glasser Foundation. One of the highlights of Dr. Glasser's philanthropic endeavors was the initial and ongoing funding of Imagine, a center of healing and hope for families dealing with loss in the Westfield area and beyond. Gerry is survived by his wife, Marlene, his daughter, Laura Glasser-Baker and her husband Joel of Westfield, and his daughter, Marjorie Ticknor and her husband, Samuel of Madison, and his daughter-in-law, Meg Glasser of Summit. His son, Thomas, is deceased. He has 8 grandchildren. Charitable donations may be made to Imagine, PO Box 711, Westfield, NJ 070, in memory of Gerald J. Glasser.

My thoughts are with all in the Glasser family at this time of loss. As the former Head at Wardlaw-Hartridge, I know how much the Glasser family meant to the school and still feel the loss of Tom.
