GREGORY KLIOT Obituary

KLIOT--Gregory, M.D., 52, beloved husband of Donna DiDonato, son of Harriet Kliot and predeceased father Dr. David Kliot will be greatly missed: He died October 6, 2015 after an extended illness. He is survived by siblings Nancy Kliot and Ben Kliot as well as nephews Alix and Jay Straus. Dr. Gregory Kliot was a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist with over 20 years of experience. He graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC, and was a Fellow of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (F.A.C.O.G.) and the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). His commitment to the field was exemplified by his dedication to Resident Education and the training of future physicians. Over the years, he was recognized in many ways, including as Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY--Downstate Medical Center, awarded "Attending of the Year" and "Best Teacher" locally, and honored with the "National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education" from the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Kliot was recognized in his profession as Chair of the Brooklyn and Staten Island Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and was President of the Brooklyn Gynecological Society. He also tirelessly worked to make the hospitals to which he admits patients the best in New York by serving on Hospital Committees. Established over 30 years ago by his father, Dr. David Kliot, the Kliot practice has always been at the forefront of advancing women's rights in the labor room, this work continued while he was with Boro Park Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was an amazing man and those closest to him understood how special he was. He can be best remembered by his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. He loved sharing his home with friends and family and living with his wife in Prospect Park South, Brooklyn. A memorial service will be held at the family home in Brooklyn on Sunday, October 11th at 1pm. The family will also accept visitors on Saturday from 4pm-7pm. Dr Kliot delivered all 3 of my children. My first was an early emergency c- section & he saved mine & my baby´s life. I will never forget him. I think about him often. He was way too young to leave us. God bless his wife & family. I hope they know how much dr Kliot meant to his patients. He was the best!!!!

Rest In Peace Dr. Kliot

Like many of his former patients here, I found Dr. Kliot to be a kind compassionate caring physician. Being a physician myself I had high standards, and Dr. Kliot met them all. When I was sick, I felt his genuine concern for me. He didn´t take chances, he went above and beyond to make sure my baby and I were healthy and safe. I had 3 high risk pregnancies with him and was devastated when I heard of his passing. I called one day to make an appointment and when the receptionist whispered it to me, I was shaken to my core. It took me over a year to recover from that shock and eventually I found another Gyn. But no one else beats Dr. Kliot. I think about him from time to time and today I decided to Google his name and I found this tribute. May it bring comfort to his family to know how much he was loved and revered. My children know his name.
Rest in sweet peace, healer.

I had the pleasure of working with Greg Kliot for several years. We shared a lot of stories and I always appreciated his sense of humor. He was always available when needed on a moment´s notice and would arrive to labor and delivery quickly. He is missed by many.

I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Kliot's passing. His father was my mother's doctor and I remember Dr. Kliot fondly. He was quiet, skilled, and compassionate. Rest in peace. His midwives were excellent.

I am so sad. I just found out about Dr. Kliot's passing. My heart aches. I was his patient since 1991. My daughter and my son were delivered at his practice. He performed my s-section for my son 22 years ago. Ironically on February 2015 I went for my routine exam and was diagnosed with uterine cancer without ever having any signs or warning of this disease. Dr. Kliot was so compassionate with me and sent me to a wonderful surgeon oncologist. My condolence to his family. I will always remember him. Sleep in peace Dr. Kliot.

I have only just now learned, to my great sorrow, of the passing of Dr. Greg Kliot in 2015, my neighbor and the man who delivered my daughter. He, his father David, and the wonderful team of midwives in their practice saw me through my pregnancy beautifully in 1995, and he performed my emergency C-section 22 years ago. Two moments come to mind. The first: As I am rushed through the halls on a gurney to the Methodist OR, Greg Kliot barks at everyone to move faster! Two days later, after a safe delivery, he and his dad visit me in the hospital, where I'm still very weak; Greg helpfully offers that I could go home that day if I wished, and his father (when I look horrified) says, softly, "Greg--look at the patient." His evident pride in his son as colleague, and his gentle and wise advice to help him grow as an observant, compassionate doctor, have stayed with me always. I have no doubt that my young ob/gyn, in the following decades, grew into just such an experienced physician as his dad, and my sadness at his life being cut short is great. I will honor his memory; my daughter Catherine will always know the name of the doctor who brought her out of danger and safely into this world. Belated but sincere condolences to his family.

So I'm still in disbelief as I'm writing this message. I called the office earlier today to make an appointment for my annual. After the courteous secretary asked my preference I told her I specifically wants to be seen by Dr. Kliot. She paused and informed me that he passed away last September/November(I'm still not sure if I believe I heard her correctly) but my heart is aching. He delivered my three kids, first son would be turning 6 on Xmas eve and twin boy and girl 18months. I remember telling Dr. Kliot that I want him to be there for the birth of my twins and when I went into labor I requested him and there he was. He will be truly missed by all. He has been my Gyn for over 15 years and I'm not sure how I'm going to allow someone else to handle my gynecological needs as he did. We joked on so many occasions about me not getting pregnant anytime soon. Continue to Sleep In Peace Dr. Gregory Kliot. You will be missed.

I just recommended my niece to Dr Kliot and was informed by her that the office told her he passed. I was in disbelief hence I came online and found his obituary. I was a pt of his for over 20yrs, from the office on Marlboro Rd. He was a GREAT DOC. He was such a great doc that even when I moved out of the borough I travelled to get care from him. When I got married and we decided on starting a family Doctor Kliot was my OB choice. We suffered several miscarriage and Doc Kliot was comforting during those times. During my first full term pregnancy I was very sick and needed mulitple hospital visits. I was comforted with each hospital visit, he would call the hospital ensuring I was being taken care of. I was hemorrhaging during my emergency c-section and in between consciousness I could hear Dr Kliot saying "I told Sasha I would take care of her and her baby. I am not going to lose her".
This is a great loss for the medical field and an even greater one for his family. May you find comfort in his memories and the stories of his many patients.

I recommended Dr. Kliot to a friend who is looking for a great OB/GYN and just found out that he died. Dr. Kliot delivered my son almost exactly ten years ago (my son's birthday was yesterday). Every year on my son's birthday, my husband tells him about my hospital experience and how Dr. Kliot took such care in ensuring that he entered this world safely. Dr. Kliot always explained every procedure that was done and assured us that all will be well. After my C-section, my husband explained how Dr. Kliot worked with such precision and professionalism while teaching his students at the same time. When we went back to visit, my husband said, "you know doc, you're a quiet man but in that operating room you're the man!" which made him laugh. He was an awesome, amazing doctor and we are very sorry to learn that he is no longer in this world. Our heartfelt condolences to his wife, family and loved ones for such an untimely loss.

My sincerest condolences, I just heard of this news, and I am so sad. Dr. Kliot delivered my second child, who is now 11, but had been my dr. For many years prior to that. He was one of the best in his field , and always was the utmost gentlemen and professional. May he rest in peace, and God be with the family, and loved ones.

His dad delivered my first born. I call the office since each time I'm troubled about a gyn matter. I called about my second born when I was at my wits end and out of the blue with no connection to Gregory he said I could come in and he would work it out with me. Later his office called to say that he called and didn't want to keep me waiting so I should come in the following day. He was great. I travelled from Staten Island and he became my gyn and he made me feel as if I were part of the family. I am shocked to learn of his passing. He saw me thru my own problems with intelligence and humanity. The world is less of a place without him and my heart goes out to his friends and mostly his family over their terrible loss.

The news of Greg's passing broke my heart, as hundreds of other admirers. I worked with Greg as a CNM for a short, very intense time--through 9/11. He was the most extraordinary human and gifted MD, as was David. My deepest sympathy to Harriot, the strongest woman I know and the rest of his wonderful family. The world has experienced a great loss. He will be sorely missed.

I was the original midwife to work with Greg's father David and i became a family friend as well as a colleague. I remember Greg as a youth, but never worked with him after he became a physician. I have been very impressed reading the notes that have been written about him. It sounds as though he became a compassionate physician much like his father. i send my condolences to Harriet and to other family members.

His father was my mother's doctor. He was my sister's doctor. He was mine too. He delivered my nieces & left his own birthday party to deliver my daughter on dec 28th. After 25 years, calling to make an appointment & hearing of his loss is heartbreaking, especially when you think of the thousands of lives that started with his care & in his hands. May his family take comfort in knowing how many lives he touched.

It's so hard to find the right words to say in praise of a fellow provider of women's health care, colleague and friend. I had the pleasure to work with Greg's father, Dr. David Kliot, and then with Dr. Greg Kliot for many years. I learned so much from both of them, and was enabled to practice midwifery in a very independent manner due to their practice, and we shared many serious discussions as well as lots of laughter and jokes. When my father died, Dr. David Kliot cried on the phone, and closed the practice, and everyone came to my dad's funeral. I will never forget that. When I got married, Greg brought over a lovely herb plant that Harriet had created. My husband had not me him yet, and Greg asked my husband John if he knew who he was, so John said: "the delivery guy?" And Greg said yes, sort of. He left this earth all to soon.
Sending many hugs and much love to the Kliot family
