HELEN CHASIN Obituary

CHASIN--Helen S., was born in New York on July 23, 1938, and attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn and Radcliffe College. Her first book of poetry won the Yale Younger Poets prize in 1968. Ms. Chasin was an inspiring and impassioned teacher of writing, co-founding The Writers Community in Manhattan in 1976. In her later years, she split her time between Rockport, Massachusetts and New York City. Chasin loved food, art and literature, travel, gardening, and her friends--and she loved to hate Nixon and the subway system. She died in her Manhattan home in early June, and is survived by Dana James Chasin and Alexandra Chasin. Please contact them for information about a private memorial gathering.

I was Helen's hairdresser when she lived in Rockport. I did her hair for about 15 years and we had many good conversations.
She always loved when I did her hair before she went away to Europe and said she always got wonderful comments on how beautiful she looked with that haircut!
I am now retired, but I still think about Helen. Till we meet again.

My dear friend, how sad I was to learn of your passing. When you didn't keep your hair appt I began to worry. We enjoyed getting to know you over the past 15 years. We were fascinated by your stories of different countries you have visited. I will miss you very much Helen. Rest now, till we meet again. Your friend, Wendy
