HELEN HAUGE Obituary

HAUGE--Helen Resor, died peacefully at her home in New York City on April 21, 2014 at 94. Born on December 8, 1919, she was the daughter of Stanley B. Resor, who ran the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency for 45 years, and legendary copywriter Helen Lansdowne Resor. A graduate of Ethel Walker School and Bryn Mawr College, Helen earned an M.A. at Teachers College. In 1948, she married Gabriel Hauge, who worked for President Dwight D. Eisenhower as Special Assistant for Economic Affairs, before moving to New York City where he became president and chairman of the board of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company. She was passionate about education, population control, women's and community issues, and served on the boards of The Brearley School, Concord Academy, Henry Street Settlement House and the New York Urban League. She is survived by her children Ann Hauge, Stephen Hauge, John Hauge, Barbara Hauge, Susan Hauge, Elizabeth Hauge Sword and Caroline Hauge Crenshaw and nine grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Colony Club, 564 Park Avenue, at 2:30pm on Friday, May 16. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Channel Thirteen or De La Salle Academy.
