Dear Hope,

I was very sad, when I read today, that Henry has passed away. We met many years ago, when he visited Rosa Jochmann and we went together for the anniversary of the liberation of Mauthausen. Over the years we met, when he published his remarkable memories and the letter-book of his father, which was discovered in a Russian archive. And I remember, when we once met accidentally on the airport in Vienna only a few days after a meeting, when we believed you already back in New York. I loved his exquisite humour. Once, when we published in the Wiener Zeitung, that he regained his Austrian citizenship, he said in a way, only he could do so: "I think, that there were not important news on that day." But it was important news for us.
All my sympathy to you and your children in these days.

Dear Hope,
your message makes me deeply sad. I never expected Henry dying so soon and at this time of the year. I deeply regret not having sent seasons' greetings and wishes earlier, even he might had not have been able to read them.
Since the 80ies at least, Henry has become for me, after I had had the privilege to make friendship with Otto and Elsa, a kind of another parental friend in the Leichter family. Through him I received a lively and intellectually stimulating understanding of the generation of former and – then – still persisting social democrats who carried a lot of the good side of the Austrian past and transferred this heritage into a special social mentality and political thinking of American democrats centred around New York. My sincere condolence goes to you and Franz and all of the Leichter family.

Dear Hope,
Very sorry to hear of Henry's death. We met around 70 years ago, and, as you know, I was his doctor for a certain time. I also think very fondly of Otto and have not forgotten Henry's mother who died so tragically and so early. Please convey my sympathy to the entire family. Peter Berczeller
