STEIN--Jacob, Temple Israel of Great Neck mourns the passing of its former president, Jack Stein. A leader in local, national, and international Jewish causes, Jack's many achievements include being President of United Synagogues of Conservative Judaism, Chairman of the Conference of Major Jewish Organizations and, along with Temple Israel's revered Rabbi, Mordecai Waxman, played a prominent role in promoting Jewish-Catholic relations with Pope John Paul II. A confidant of national and international figures, Jack also served as Special Advisor in the White House under President Reagan, a member of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations, and a delegate to the Human Rights Commission. Married 65 years to Jean, who predeceased him, Jack is survived by three children, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His wise counsel will be missed by all. Howard A.
