JOHN GALLAGHER Obituary

GALLAGHER--John E., Sr. ("Captain Jack") "Aviation Pioneer" took his final flight here on Earth November 27, 2013. Born March 4th, 1920, he is survived by his wife Joan of 69 years, his three sons, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He graduated from Parks Air College of St. Louis University in 1943. In 1963 he received the University's distinguished Oliver Parks Merit Award for his outstanding advancement of Civil Aviation both in the United States and Europe. He was principle engineer for the Air Force P-47 Thunderbolt Fighter and started the first scheduled helicopter service in New York (New York Airways) in 1949. Established the helicopter logistic and maintenance systems for then President John F. Kennedy White House called HMX1. He holds the first commercial helicopter pilot's license. He has slipped the surly bonds of Earth and is dancing in the sky on silver wings. He goes now where neither falcon nor eagle have ever gone and has touched the face of God. We love you Dad.
