JOHN STEFANKIEWICZ Obituary

STEFANKIEWICZ--John K., 39, of Manhattan, New York passed away on May 24, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with pulmonary disease. He will be missed by those who were fortunate to be a part of his life. He is survived by his loving wife Suhana Han; his cherished son Henryk; his sister Tabitha Pia; his brother Eric; his aunt Sabina; and his nieces and nephew. He is the son of the late Karl and Carol Stefankiewicz. Raised on Staten Island, John graduated from The University of Chicago in 1994 and received his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. John began his career in Boston at Investors Bank and Trust Company, before moving to New York to head a systems development team for many of the bank's largest clients. He also worked in UBS Investment Bank's Financial Institutions Group. Most recently, he was a Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Vastardis Capital Services, providing advice to financial institutions and alternative asset managers on fund administration. John's professional achievements were impressive but the most significant aspect of his life was his family. John married his long-time sweetheart Suhana on January 3, 2005 on Guam, with a New York reception on April 9, 2005. Their son Henryk was born on July 27, 2009. John was a devoted father who treasured spending time with his son, often walking the streets of New York and taking in the city's many construction sites and equipment. John also shared his eclectic taste in music with Henryk. Services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Plymouth Church, 57 Orange Street (between Henry and Hicks Streets) in Brooklyn Heights. A reception will follow. A visitation will be held at Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker Street, from 6 to 9pm that evening. In lieu of flowers, gifts in John's memory can be made to Trail's Edge Camp, c/o Mary Buschell, 310 West Valley Rd., Maple City, MI, 49664, or A Caring Hand, The Billy Esposito Foundation, P.O. Box 1232, New York, NY 10276.

Shock and sadness to see someone so young and brilliant be taken away. I will forever cherish John's humor, wit and professionalism he brought to IBT and Commonfund. To his immediate and extended family; may you find comfort in your many memories of this great man.

A great friend and someone you can sit and talk to about anything. I had the great privilege to know, work with, golf with, and hang with for 7 years. You won't be forgotten.

My heart is with Suhana, Henryk, and the entire family.
