CUBA--Jonathan. Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Teacher, Musician, Writer and Friend. At 43, Jon passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. A graduate of P.S. 6 and Riverdale Country School, Jon went on to get a B.A. from University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute. Jon lived in Los Angeles for ten years as a screenwriter and teacher before returning to his home in New York City. At Rodeph Sholom Day School, Jon was the Head of the Math Department and an exceptional math teacher; later, creator and Head of the Digital Arts Department; admired advisor, Jon helped countless students who still send notes of gratitude years later. Rodeph is also where he met his beloved wife, Randi, with whom they have a son, Aaron. Aaron, who just turned three, lit up Jon's life - just hearing his voice always brought a smile to his face. Jon was a creative soul with a great sense of humor which he brought to his writing and his music. An avid sports fan, he adored all teams New York and always had opinions on how they could do better. He will be greatly missed by an expansive community of friends, family, students and colleagues. He is survived by his wife Randi, son Aaron, his parents, Fred and Marion Cuba, his sister Stephanie, brother-in-law, Lawrence Cunningham and their daughter Rebecca; his brothers-in-law Marc Snyder (Emily) and Brian Snyder (Tabitha); his cousin Jennifer Komitee and aunt Phyllis Finkelstein. A funeral will be held Tuesday, November 27 at 10:00am at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Avenue (91st St.) in New York. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Aaron Louis Cuba Trust, for the education of Jon's son.
