Lillian Reinhardt Obituary

REINHARDT--Lillian Tootle "Solie", died February 4, 2009 in Millbrook, NY. She was 88 years old. Born in Bethany, WV she was the daughter of Harry King Tootle, former Personnel Director of the New York Times and author of Employees are People, and Jessica Campbell Nave. She attended the Mount de Chantal School in Wheeling WV and the Knox School in Cooperstown, NY. During the Second World War Solie worked for the Red Cross in the North African and European theatres and after the war the Marshall Plan in France. In 1998 she published a compendium of her war-time letters to family in a book entitled V Mail. In 1949 she was married to G. Frederick Reinhardt, Jr., a career foreign service officer, who served as US Ambassador to South Viet Nam, Counselor of the State Department, U.S. Ambassador to the United Arab Republic, and U.S. Ambassador to Italy. He died in 1971. Solie is survived by her four children: G. Frederick Reinhardt III of Fairfield, CT, Aurelia Reinhardt Gebauer of Miami, FL, C. Henry "Harry" Reinhardt of Millbrook, NY, and Catherine Reinhardt Traber of New York, NY, and 14 grandchildren. She will be remembered for her abounding energy and sense of adventure, her relentless curiosity and lively spirit. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter's Church, Lithgow, Millbrook, NY at 11:00am on Friday, February 13, 2009.
