MITCHELL H. HOOKS

HOOKS--Mitchell H. (Mitch/Mike), age 89, of New York, NY, died unexpectedly on March 18, 2013. Son of the late Hilary M. and Marie (nee Andrews) Hooks; devoted father of Sister Hilary Hooks, CDP and Micki Schubert (Tim Oltmans); loving grandfather of Kathy Schubert (Tony Pietrofitta), Kristy Madzarac (Will), and Jen Mills (Chris). Gentle and caring great-grandfather, brother-in-law, and uncle. Born in Detroit, MI, Mitchell served honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He then became a renowned American artist and illustrator. Inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1999, his warm and unassuming manner encouraged many hopeful young artists who sought his inspiration. A fan remarked, "He was such an iconic figure in the golden age of illustration." He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed by the Central Park Conservancy (www.centralparknyc.org) or La Posada Providencia (www.lppshelter.org). A private memorial was held by the family.
