NATHAN TRYNIN Obituary

TRYNIN--Nathan (Nick) K. Died November 18, 2011 at his home on Shelter Island, NY, where he lived with his beloved partner and wife of 33 years, Judith Sutton. He was 81. Nick grew up in New York City son of Ada Wilentz Trynin and Theodore N. Trynin. He was very attached to his high school, Poly Prep, where he was captain of the baseball team, and served 19 years on its Board of Trustees. He graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. Nick went on to serve his country in the Judge Advocate General's Department of the Air Force and then later became Assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of NY, serving under the Honorable Leonard P. Moore. The majority of his professional life was spent at Amerada Hess Corporation as a senior executive. Nick was an appreciator of all cultures through his extensive international travels. His life was filled with family, many meaningful long term friendships, and hobbies which included sailing and golf. A creature of habit and a repeater of a good joke, Nick favored filet of sole, chocolate ice cream and a gin martini, best enjoyed out at the end of his Shelter Island dock with his friend Marvin. This coming Thanksgiving will be the first time in 27 years that Nick will not host his favorite event of the year, his Thanksgiving Harvard Club Dinner for family and friends, which he organized with his wife, Judy and his dear sister, Kate. He was predeceased by his other NYC "club" of 50 years, Gino on Lexington Ave. Nick is survived by his wife Judith Sutton, his sister Kate Kestnbaum, his daughter Jennifer S. Trynin and son-in-law, Mike Denneen, his son Thomas C. Trynin and daughter-in-law, Robin Trynin, and his two adored grandchildren, Gracie Denneen and Sadie Trynin. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 23 at 10:30am at Frank E. Campbell, 1076 Madison Ave. at 81st St., New York, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to his favorite Shelter Island charities.
