Neil John Heiskell, of Hedge Court, Water Mill, NY, passed away on March 13, 2014, following a brief illness.
Born on July 7, 1929, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Mr. Heiskell was the son of Dr. E. Frank Heiskell and Olwen John Heiskell. Mr. Heiskell was a graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York City and enjoyed a distinguished career in interior design with the prominent firm of Howard & Barley in New York. A resident of the Upper East Side, he acquired the firm and became its principal officer and designer in 1975. His work was featured in several newspaper and magazine articles and, although he retired in 2011, he remained in demand by many of his clients and continued to serve them until recently.
Mr. Heiskell is survived by his partner of 63 years, Howard W. Parker, a native of Syracuse, New York, and also a graduate of Parsons. They were married in 2012. Messrs. Heiskell and Parker purchased the historic Hedge Court in Water Mill in 1964 and have resided there since their respective retirements.
Mr. Heiskell was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Dr. Edgar F. Heiskell, Jr. A sister, Winifred H. Wildman, of Morgantown, WV, survives, along with several nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Mr. Heiskell's beloved pet, "Cotton," a Bichon-Poodle mix, also survives.
A private family service for Mr. Heiskell was held on March 14, 2014. In his memory, friends are invited to join Mr. Heiskell's family in making donations to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptions (A.R.F.), P.O. Box 901, Wainscott, New York 11975, or a charity of their own choosing.
