New York, NY – Mr. Raul Azpiazu, 92, died Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Mt. Sinai St. Luke Hospital in Morningside Heights (New York City), following a brief illness.

Raul leaves his wife of 56 years, Eleanor (Suozzo) Azpiazu; his sister Angela Argimon; his nephews Justo ('Mapo') Azpiazu, Raul ('Raulito') Azpiazu, Constantino ('Tinito') Argimon, Alejandro ('Alex') Argimon, Ana Cristina Argimon and Maria Teresa ('Maite') Argimon; and many close friends.

Born and raised in Havana (Cuba), Raul was the son of famous Cuban musician and orchestra director, Mr. Justo Angel Azpiazu (better known as "Don Azpiazu") and Mrs. Cuba (Aleman) Azpiazu.

Raul was a lifelong resident of the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where he arrived in 1944 at the age of 21. Since coming to New York City, Raul led an active and successful career as a singer in the Latin music world. He was lead singer for the Ramon Argueso Orchestra at the iconic Roseland Ballroom in New York's Theater District, also performing regularly with the renowned Lester Lanin Orchestra. Ever enthusiastic and energetic, Raul lived a long and happy life as an artist as well as a dedicated husband. He will be remembered with great fondness by all who knew him and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at R. G. Ortiz Funeral Home (235 West 72nd Street, between Broadway and West End Avenue, in Manhattan), on Thursday, September 3 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The burial will take place on Friday, September 4 at 11:30 AM, departing from R.G. Ortiz Funeral Home, to Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York (10 West Stevens Avenue).
