Bernadette and family - sorry to hear about Rosemary's passing. I knew her back in the 70s and always admired her survival skills and her ability to think and concentrate. We met at Magnum Photos where we both worked.

Rosemary Mayer was an original Queens' Finest: her ability to reach each of us was apparent to her students and co-workers.

Rosemary and I talked Trek and illustrators. I would write stories and she would read them, making comments. Pleased her no end. She was very devoted to teaching and art. It was always nice to see her whenever class and office time allowed. She will leave an unfillable gap here at LaGuardia, but certainly not in our memories of her.
Was a pleasure to know and work with her.

Rosemary and I were close friends at SJC. We often talked through the night about literature and philosophy. Later when she married, I was friends with her and her husband. Her intellectual influence on me is incalculable. Sincere condolences to those family and friends who feel her loss keenly.

I met Rosemary when we were both students at the School of Visual Arts. Rosemary had enrolled there after having decided to pursue fulltime studies in fine art and consequently turned down an invitation to join the graduate program in classics at Harvard - one of the very first women to be admitted to this program. I'd noticed that she was reading Goethe's Elective Affinites, and we bonded quickly over our mutual love of literature. I learned from her easy and unconflicted devotion to artistic craft and technique on the one hand, and full engagement with the life of the intellect on the other. We critiqued each other's work and assisted each other in constructing it. She was serious but funny, demanding but supportive, a unique personality in every way. I will miss her very much. My deepest condolences to her family.
