SAMUEL H. LINDENBAUM

LINDENBAUM--Samuel H. The Trustees and staff of The Metropolitan Museum of Art mourn the passing of Sandy Lindenbaum, an Honorary Trustee since 2004, and a colleague and friend. He shared with his wife Linda a great passion for the Met, and they are both esteemed Benefactors who, for more than three decades, have contributed generously to this institution in immeasurable ways. He was an important and involved member of the Museum's Real Estate Council, which he joined and supported beginning in 1984, and which recognized him as the honoree of its 2002 Benefit. He was also an active member of Trustee advisory committees that supported exhibitions, acquisitions, events, and curatorial areas including Asian art and modern/contemporary art. Sandy and Linda's extensive support of the Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas culminated in 2010 with the naming of two galleries--one for West African art and the other for Mesoamerican art--as the Samuel H. and Linda M. Lindenbaum Galleries. Always willing to share his time and wise counsel, Sandy was a consummate colleague who held true to the belief that culture is important in people's lives, and he helped make this great institution even greater for present and future generations of visitors.
