TIMOTHY LUNTZEL Obituary

LUNTZEL--Timothy Bruce,

died peacefully from complications of ALS, at the age of 44 on August 27, 2017, surrounded by his mother Elizabeth Neumann (nee Juvet), her husband Peter G. Neumann, and Tim's brother Mark Luntzel, in Palo Alto, CA. Tim had numerous musical colleagues, beginning with those in the Menlo-Atherton High School Jazz Band and fellow students at the Berklee College of Music, all of whom remained close to him. After playing bass in Boston for several years, he and his band moved to New York City and became the Brooklyn Boogaloo Blowout. Tim toured the U.S., Europe, India, the Far East, and South America, and played with Michael Blake, Bright Eyes, Jim Campilongo, Rosanne Cash, Jon Dryden, Rachelle Garniez, Jack Grace, Jessie Harris, Smokey Hormel, Norah Jones, Richard Julian, Lee Ranaldo, Dina Regine, Jenny Scheinman, Leo Sidran, Ben Sidran, Leah Siegel, Greg Tannen, Loudon Wainwright III, and many others. Tim played on two Grammy award-winning albums and one gold record. He greatly enriched the lives of many people with his music, cooking, loyalty, humor, and generosity. He's free and flying, and will always be remembered by his family and friends.

Hey Luntz. Was just thinking of the East River Van Hayride cruise to see the Mets. As Naomi put it..."This is the best day of our lives"!!! It sure was. Miss you, Tim.

My Dear Friend
I only found out last night,
I've wondered where you've been,
You had always made me smile,
I loved your gentle and romantic ways,
Your heartfelt huge hugs and laughter,
Generous soul and giving heart.
I'm sorry I didn't know and I was kinda mad didn't understand why you never came back.
I'm sorry for not realizing you'd gone away.
Love is something we connected on,
The ultimate high.
A part of me is now forever changed,
Gone forever, life so bitter sweet.
I will miss you always Tim.

First met Tim in 2005 when my band performed with him at Bitter End in NYC. Always upbeat and funny, Tim was a remarkable talent and person. Whenever I met another musician in NYC or LI and mentioned Tim, if they knew him too they'd exclaim with a smile, "YOU KNOW TIM?!!!" He was loved and will be deeply missed by all.

Tim, was our neighbor for many years in Greenpoint, BK. We first met him while he was late night BBQing. He ribbed his PJ's on our fence, when he hopped over and gave us some Tequila and smoked ribs. We loved your passion for food and friends, Tim. xoxo

I remember my first gig with Tim and knowing he was the guy who was carrying the torch in the downtown music scene. All the fires he sparked are making the world a better place. I miss him.

Liz, Mark, and Peter. I know you know how much Tim impacted everyone's lives. I am forever grateful to having him as a friend. I am sure he is in the clouds, teaching Miles, Parker, Monk, Trane, and Brubeck a thing or two.
