Virginia attended one of our family gatherings one Christmas. I thought I had lost all the old family photos but my lucky day, I found a picture of her holding me on her lap. Thank you Virginia. A good story about my first Christmas!

I had a schoolboy crush on Virginia Gibson, starting with the weekday edition of DISCOVERY'62. Later, I would watch DISCOVERY on Sunday morning. It is unfortunate that young people don't have anything like DISCOVERY on television today.

Miss Gibson, like they say, was a class act

When I first saw Virginia in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, I was 11 years old, but I did realize how pretty Virginia was, and continued, to see any movie, in which see appeared in my years ahead. At that young age, I always wanted to meet her, if she ever visited the Chicago area. I fondly will, remember her.

January 13, 2020

I watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers recently on TV. I had no idea she was so famous except for that movie. Virginia was good friends with my uncle while they were working in NYC in the 1950's and I can remember meeting her while she was in California. They kept in touch for years but I don't believe that she ever married. RIP Virginia.

I wish I knew a little more about her. With the Blu-ray version of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers coming soon, Virginia Gibson has suddenly become my favourite Hollywood star, and sadly there's not much I can find about her online. Her life is shrouded in mystery. Perhaps someone will tell her story one day, hopefully in my lifetime.

Also, does anyone know where she is buried? I doubt I can ever afford to visit the United States but it would be nice to know her final resting place.

Sorry for the second entry.

Virginia Gibson would make my heart glow whenever I see her in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Shame she never married or had children, or so I read. But she lived a very long life and I can only assume she must've been happy.

RIP Virginia Gibson.

As a youngster, and 15 years younger, I really liked seeing your movies, and do remember watching you, on TV, whenever I could. You were a long-distant girl friend, whom, I always wanted to meet. Someday, we will.

I was going through my mind to remember things of the past and I remembered the children's documentary " Discovery " I had no idea when the show started , but I found that as a six year old boy with my little brother and sister that we caught it when it debuted in the fall of 1962 , we were living in Huntingburg Indiana at the time and it aired as soon as I got home from school and Virginia and Frank did a great job as host of the show , it was a show I so much looked forward to and according to the information I found on Virginia Gibson , it appears that I have seen her in early musicals without even knowing it and I wish both Frank and Virginia were here so I could thank them of a job well done and I almost forgot to mention their dog " Corpuscle " I saw him when he was a pup and the musicals were excellent , I don't think we will ever see talent like that ever again and this is why I enjoy old musicals that were in " black and white " I wouldn't have it any other way and I would like to thank those actors and actresses for their hard work and the memories , RIP Frank and Virginia and thank you linda Lopez McAlister for keeping this guestbook going and as for the houses I lived in in Indiana , I looked them up on Google Earth and both houses are not there anymore .

I remember Virginia very well from the Discovery program. As a boy, I looked forward to seeing it on the weekend. She was a pioneer in intelligent programming for young people. I only recently discovered that she was also a successful dancer and actress. I will be looking for her other work.

August 7, 2016

Jan, No, she never married or had children of her own. Perhaps that's why she loved children so much. Teaching them theatre, doing the Discovery show, etc. I recall one afternoon I was visiting her and we went down to the laundry room in her building and there was a little girl there and I was struck by how she immediately started a conversation with her. Also how great she was to them when her niece and nephew came to visit her in NYC.

I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE MET VIRGINIA IN HER LATER YEARS WHEN SHE LIVED IN NEWTOWN. I KNEW SHE HAD APPEARED IN SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS BUT UNFORTUNATELY WAS UNAWARE OF HER MANY OTHER SCREEN AND THEATRICAL CREDITS. I AM A HUGE FAN OF TCM AND LOVE THE OLD MOVIES. WE WOULD HAVE HAD MUCH TO TALK ABOUT. SHE WORKED WITH SOME OF THE BIGGEST STARS IN THE BUSINESS. I JUST SAW HER IN TEA FOR TWO WITH DORIS DAY AND GORDON MCCRAE. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE SHARED WITH HER A BRIEF MOMENT OF HER LIFE. MAY GOD BLESS.

I very much enjoyed her performance in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, a movie that, until recently, I never thought I would like in a million years. She was obviously a very talented woman. I wish to offer her family my condolences. My prayers are with you.

I also remember her fondly from the old Discovery TV show that she co-hosted with Frank Buxton on ABC, weekday afternoons, back in the early 60's. I loved that show. I never realized until now that she died, and I assume lived, in Newtown PA, only 15 minutes from my home. I would surely have paid a visit if I knew.

My mother and father were very close friends to Dee Dee... I used to go to Los Angeles to the Park La Brea apartments every Sunday afternoon and visit her with her parents... John and Mary. I loved that time of my life with Dee Dee... she taught me how to knit, which I still do today.

I first met Virginia in 1954 at age 14 when I knocked on her dressing room door at the LA Civic Light Opeera. I told her I wanted to act. She kept in touch, got me a wonderful acting coach, dragged her dates to see my h.s. performances, took me to both film and tv studios to watch, and was like my big sister when I went to NYC to college and she was starring on Your Hit Parade the year after being nominated for a Tony Award for playing Ethel Merman's daughter in Happy Hunting. Dear Virginia, thank you for your kindness way back then and through the years.
