FANNING--Dorothy Mary, died May 24, 2014 in New York at the age of 87 following a long illness. A retired nurse, after spending over 40 years in Florida, she returned to New York in October to be closer to her family. Dorothy, the daughter of Edward and Catherine Kern, was the youngest of six children all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her son and daughter James and Kathy Fanning, and grandchildren Brian Fanning and Marlene Yolango, their spouses Lindsay and Frank, and six great- grandchildren: Owen, Patrick, Samantha, Anna, Megan and Kaitlyn. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Handmaids of Mary Convent, 15 West 124th St., New York, NY 10027, 10am on Friday, May 30. Dorothy will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband of nearly 50 years, James, a World War II Veteran. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to The Shirley Goodman & Hilman Brown Hospice, 1844 Second Ave., NY, NY 10128, or the Lewy Body Association (www.lbda.org).
