CONNERY--Walter Patrick, Palm Bay. Born on St. Patrick's Day, 1933 to Walter and Mae (nee Manning) Connery in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY, Walter Patrick Connery passed away on June 8, 2014 in Melbourne, FL. A graduate of Fordham University with a BS in Education, he embarked on his 38 year career in law enforcement with the NYPD, later obtaining his Law degree from St. John's University and graduating from the FBI National Academy. He progressed to detective and retired as Deputy Inspector. His educational background bore fruit when as second in command of the Police Academy, he built a new curriculum and designed the Police Student Law Guide. A Bronx Precinct Command preceded his role as Department Prosecutor, where he directed all internal administrative trials for the entire NYPD. Retiring as the Director of Health Services Division in 1980, he joined the United States Department of Justice INS as Director of the Office of Professional Responsibility where he was in charge of all internal criminal and administrative investigations for the INS. In a five year period he additionally conducted over 100 hallmark criminal civil rights and corruption prosecutions. Honors include the US Attorney for Washington DC Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement and the INS Commissioner's Award. Walter was appointed Assistant Director for Investigation and placed in charge of the largest INS field office in New York City. After retiring from the Justice Department, he continued to work as a consultant regarding immigration law and police procedures. He is survived by his beloved wife and traveling companion Carol, children Lisa and Cliff (Maryanne) and his grandsons Michael, Ryan and Colin. Walter was renowned for his integrity, kindness and humor. He will be sorely missed by many including his relatives-in-law Gail, Steve, Donald and Joan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1425 Miller Street NE, Palm Bay, FL on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 10:00am.
