JULIETTE GIMON Obituary
died peacefully on Saturday, February 24 in New York City at the age of 45. Ms. Gimon was passionately dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world and enhancing the efficacy of philanthropy. She pioneered new ways to engage philanthropists and encouraged them to think creatively about advancing their causes. In this capacity she co-founded the Global Philanthropy Forum and then worked as a Program Manager for Google.org's Global Development Initiative from 2007 to 2009. She also worked at JP Morgan Private Bank as Vice President of Global Philanthropic Services. Ms. Gimon was also personally active in many philanthropic endeavors and for site visits traveled extensively to East Africa, India and Latin America. She joined the board of the Global Fund for Children in 2002 and served as board chair from 2007 to 2011. She also served on the boards of William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, The Synergos Institute and The Philanthropy Workshop West. Juliette Gimon was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France and moved to Greenwich, Connecticut at the age of 11. She then earned her BA in Anthropology from Columbia University. In September of 2016 Ms. Gimon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and with characteristic determination and resolve she tried to help those facing a similar diagnosis. She inspired a video series with Let's Win to give hope to those with pancreatic cancer. Above all she was devoted to her loving daughter Flora who is now surrounded by the love and support of family and close friends. Ms. Gimon is remembered by her daughter Flora Sofia Gimon, mother Eleanor Hewlett Gimon, sisters Nathalie Farman-Farma and Marianne d'Ansembourg, brother Eric Gimon, and their respective spouses Amir Farman-Farma, Alessandro d'Ansembourg, and Emma Gimon, as well her seven nieces and nephews and her many friends around the world. A vigil will take place from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Friday, March 2 at Scotto Funeral Home in Carroll Gardens, 106 1st Place, Brooklyn, NY 11231. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 4:00pm at Saint Charles Borromeo, 19 Sidney Place, Brooklyn, NY 11201. In lieu of flowers, we would like to encourage contributions in Juliette's honor to the Global Fund for Children and Let's Win.

It is so hard to believe almost two years has passed since you left this world. As you know my Cheryl lost her battle with the monster, as she called it, January 21, 2017. When I think of her, everyday and night, I think of you and smile that she has such an amazing friend in heaven with her to laugh, smile and feel no more pain for eternity. Both of you were such brave fighters and will always be heroines to all of us, your loving family.
Love you both to the moon and back, as my girl used to say to me.

Juliette drew more joy from family and philanthropy than anyone Ive known. A phone call with her mother Eleanor, a visit from Marianne or Eric, or the opportunity to move into the same building as Nathalie were very special moments in her life, as they will remain in theirs. And Flora gave her new purpose and pleasure every day. Over the years I knew Juliette I watched her expand her family to include those with whom she worked and those she came to support -- whether they were next door or half way around the world. We all miss this very special light in our lives.

I worked with Juliette at google.org and was stunned to hear she has left this life. I remain mesmerized and touched by her grace and compassion because she came to work every day holding a type of assured silence with pure strength. I offer you my sincere condolences. Juliette was a wonderful colleague. I have the fondest memories from traveling in India with her in 2007. I was early in my career at the Hewlett Foundation and Juliette was a kind, generous, and open collaborator, then working at Google.org.
We went to visit schools together and the image of Juliette forever seared in my memory is of her in a pair of big sunglasses skipping down the lane holding hands with an enthusiastic group of young girls, a huge huge smile on her face! I will keep this image in mind as a reminder to bring joy to the work as I continue tackling issues near and dear to Juliette's heart.

Juliette was a devoted mother to Flora Sofia, our granddoughter. We had the pleasure of meeting Juliette thanks to our son, Jesse. ( Flora's father) 7 years ago.
