I just learned of Dr. Rosen's passing today, since I no longer live in North Jersey, and am deeply saddened by his passing. My brother and sister and I, and my mother, uncle and aunt, all were his patients between the 1950s and late 1990s...Even after I left for college in 1995, I would still continue to see him for a few years...Now that I am a parent of my own, I cannot help but compare my children's pediatrician to Dr. Rosen, and this is unfair, because it is impossible for anyone to measure up.

A doctor's office can be a scary experience for many children, but I clearly remember a calm, nurturing environment...never scary...

I remember reading all the memorabilia on the walls in the waiting rooms and being in awe of the photos of his outdoor activities around the world...And of course, the rabbits and goats and other animals in the backyard pretty much guaranteed that once our visit was over inside, there was still more to do outside.

Thank you Dr. Rosen for being such a wonderful caregiver to children and their families for so many years, and for good memories of how all physicians should interact with their patients and families.

I am glad you lived such a full life. I echo the thoughts that a street in Fair Lawn, or perhaps a portion of Fair Lawn Avenue near your office, should be dedicated in your honor.

Doctor Rosen was was my pediatrician from 1970 until I went off to college. He told me that as long as I fit on the table, I could come to him. He was a calm and interested doctor, who spoke to me as an adult, never patronizing. I remember his office rabbit Erasmus and his goat that chewed on my shirt. When I had pet rabbits in adulthood, I often thought of Doctor Rosen. I missed his care when I moved away and I'll always remember him, and the red cardboard blocks in his waiting room.

Both of my sons' were in Dr. Rosens care till they they were 18. A great Doctor. Being in the liquor business - he would always ask me what 99cent wines were a good buy. A great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.

Dr. Albert P. Rosen was my pediatrician in Fair Lawn, NJ from the age of 3 years old, that year being 1961 old till I was 18 years old which

would make that 1977. As a matter of fact I think I still saw Dr. Rosen on several trips returning home from college.

My two younger sisters, Lisa and Susan also saw Dr. Rosen until till they were 18 years old.

There was never in the history of my experience with pediatric doctors, (having been told stories by my friends and by my sisters) a more gifted,

gentle Doctor who made one, parents especially, feel safe and secure albeit having the possibility of a needle being stuck in your arm (or your tush!).

I have inimitable memories of Dr. Rosen's office with his waiting room full of children's toys, books,

and especially red cardboard building blocks. After each examination with Dr. Rosen you would then

adjourn with your parent, my Mother in my case, into his office which was filled with photographs

and memorabilia of his trips and adventures from all over the world; one that specifically stands out in

my mind is a picture of Dr. Rosen atop Mount Kilimanjaro.

Other memories include, rabbits, chickens and goats in his backyard! I think there might have even been

a rabbit in the office. Lollipops and sweets was something to look forward to at the end of a visit.

And a very sweet, caring nurse who's name escapes me but my sister Lisa believes her name was Fran.

Dr. Rosen will sorely be missed by the hundreds of families who knew him and trusted him with

Their children's lives and well-being.

Thank you Dr. Rosen. They broke the mold when you were born!

May you rest in peace hopefully in the heavens atop Mount Kilimanjaro.

With Love and Respect to a true healer in the medical community,

I would like to suggest naming a street in Fair Lawn, NJ after Dr. Albert P. Rosen.

Dr. Rosen was an inspiration as a physician as well as a friend. I received countless tips regarding the care of children as well as their parents and caregivers. In addition, Al helped me with my garden, introducing me to new techniques and explaining over and over again how compost should be prepared and maintained.
Our hospital staff has missed AL for over 7 years.and the town of Fair Lawn will miss AL as well.

I can honestly say that AL changed the way I treat my patients and I am sad that he has passed.

I often hiked with Dr. Al, enjoying
many hours of conversation and na-
ture. I'll not forget his advice.

And I particularly remember when,
back in 1983, while a member of an
Everest expedition, I encountered
his son, Dr. Jonathan, high up in
the Himalayas. I thought I was dy-
ing, given the conditions, but he
assured me I was probably in better
condition than almost anyone else
there. (I was the oldest guy on the
team, and his reassurance was worth
a million to me.)

The funny thing was that, when I got back to NY, I called Al and Ann
to tell them what a small world it
was. It turned out they had not
heard from their son, and were more
than happy at the news he was well.

I express my condolences to the fa-
mily at the loss of a great man;
may I participate in the memorial?
