GOSIER--Lester James, Sr., born, January 31, 1916, in Oswego, New York, died on July 9, 2009 in Bay Shore, New York. He was predeceased by his wife, of 55 years, Carolyn H. Teetsel Gosier; his parents, Mr. Austin W. Gosier (father); Mrs. Bessie C. Green Gosier, (mother); family members Mrs. Louise Gosier Westcott, (sister); Mrs. Lynn Lynes (daughter-in-law); and Mr. Frederick F. Fenter, (son-in-law). His surviving family includes Mr. Thomas C. Lynes of New Jersey; Ms. Carol Ann Fenter of New York; Mr. L. James Gosier of Maryland; Mrs. Mary Jane Gosier Rowlette of Wisconsin; Mrs. Janette Louise Gosier Foley of Colorado; Mrs. Margaret E. Gosier Hauptfleisch of New York, their spouses, and numerous grandchildren and great-grand children. Mr. Gosier was educated at the Oswego Normal School, now SUNY Oswego; SUNY Albany; New York University; and the New School for Social Research. Mr. Gosier was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army reserve; a founding member of the Teachers Federal Credit Union, serving on the board of directors continuously since its founding, and recently became a trustee emeritus. He was a science teacher for 42 years. Mr. Gosier was on the advisory boards of Southside Hospital and the Bay Shore Public Library. He was on the boards of the SUNY Oswego Alumni, South Shore Symphony, Long Island Teachers Association, and a member of the Bay Shore United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2009, 1:00 pm, at the United Methodist Church, 107 E. Main Street, Bay Shore, New York 11706. A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Bay Shore Public Library 1 South Country Club Road, Brightwaters, New York 11718 or to an organization of your choice.
