SCHWALBE--Mary Anne. The Board of Directors, Overseers and staff of the International Rescue Committee and the Board of Directors, Commissioners and staff of the Women's Refugee Commission are profoundly saddened by the death of our beloved colleague Mary Anne Schwalbe. After a career as a prominent educational administrator, Mary Anne immersed herself in the cause of refugees, playing a pivotal role in the effectiveness of our organizations. She was the founding executive director of the Women's Refugee Commission from 1990 to 1994 and remained engaged in its work since then; a board member since 1997 of the International Rescue Committee - UK, in whose founding she was instrumental; and a tireless volunteer and senior advisor to the International Rescue Committee. Fearless traveler, she visited refugee sites worldwide, ensuring that the needs of uprooted people, especially women and children, were being met. We express our deepest sympathies to her husband, Douglas; her children, Douglas, Will and Nina Schwalbe; and their spouses and her grandchildren. International Rescue Committee, Alan R.
