BATES--Margaret Schieffelin Pardee, July 22, 1918 - September 14, 2010. Philanthropist, conservationist, educator. Born New York City, died Carmel, CA. Daughter of Margaret Trevor Pardee and Irving H. Pardee, MD. Granddaughter of Margaret Schieffelin Trevor and Henry Graff Trevor and Ensign Bennett Pardee, MD and Clara Burton Pardee. Direct descendant of Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower (tenth descent). Married: New York City, 1938 to Talcott Bates, MD (deceased). Chapin School. BA Barnard College '40; MA Washington University '41. California State Board of Education 1960-1968. Trustee California State Universities and Colleges 1960-1969. Trustee Barnard College, member Accrediting Commission of Western Association Schools and Colleges. Her papers are in the Hoover Institution. Memberships: Casa Abrego Club Monterey CA, Junior League of the City of New York, National Society of Colonial Dames. Children: David Talcott. Seth Pardee, Anthony Stewart, Charles Carroll, Margaret Schieffelin (deceased). Service of remembrance is on September 26, 3:30pm at the York School, Monterey CA.
