HAMPTON--Aubrey, Aubrey Hampton, 76, founder and CEO of Aubrey Organics, and co-founder of Gorilla Theatre in Tampa, FL, passed away May 9 after a brief illness. He is survived by sons Mitchell and Trevor, and a sister, Millie Newman. A pioneer in natural hair and skin care, Aubrey operated one of the first natural cosmetic companies in the U.S., with plant-based products sold all over the world. He was born October 23, 1934, in New Albany, IN. In 1967, he founded Aubrey's Nature Labs with just two products, simple beginnings he grew into Aubrey Organics, the multi-national company that bears his name. A prolific author, his books include Natural Organic Hair and Skin Care, What's in Your Cosmetics, and The Take Charge Beauty Book. He was publisher of Organica: A Magazine of Arts and Activism. Aubrey enjoyed a second career as an award-winning playwright and producer, and co-founded Gorilla Theatre with his late wife, playwright Susan Hussey. He published two plays, GBS and Company, based on the life of George Bernard Shaw, and Wolf Trilogy. In 2000 he founded the Young Dramatists Project, a playwriting competition for middle and high school students. At the heart of his legacy is his joyful and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed. The family requests that, in place of flowers, his memory be honored with donations to the Gorilla Theatre, the , or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
