HERSKOWITZ--Dr. Irwin H., 92, died June 10, 2012 in Lake Worth, Florida. He leaves his beloved and loving wife of 67 years, Reida Postrel Herskowitz. He was father of the late Ira Herskowitz and leaves his children Joel, Mara, and Alan Herskowitz; Joel's wife, Roya Sayadi; and his grandchildren Laurel Dumont, Sylvan, Alexandra, Corey, and William Leo Herskowitz and Tara and Nika Makhmali. A 1940 graduate of Brooklyn College, he earned a masters degree from the University of Missouri in 1942, served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1948. He taught for many years at Hunter College of the City University of New York. Through his scholarly teaching and writing and, upon retirement, through his artwork, he was an inspiration to his children, grandchildren, students, and colleagues. The funeral will be at Gutterman's in Rockville Centre at 10am, Wednesday, June 13.
