WEILER--Ivan Jeanne, 77, passed away peacefully on July 12. She was a graduate of Pomona College and earned her doctorate in 1960 with Nobel laureate Robert W. Sperry at Cal Tech. She worked at the Institute for Cancer Research in Fox Chase, PA, at the University of Konstanz, Germany, and most recently at the Beckman Institute of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Her fields of research were embryology, cell biology, and molecular neuroscience. In the late 1990s, while working with William T. Greenough, she made fundamental discoveries of the molecular basis for the previously obscure genetic illness, Fragile X mental retardation. Ivan Jeanne loved art and Italy. She will be dearly missed by her family, and by many devoted friends, students and colleagues.
