1920 - 2012
Theda Nahamies died on Friday October 5th 2012 at her home in New York City. She was 92.

Theda was born July 13 1920 in Brooklyn New York to Jack and Minnie Eisen. She graduated from Lincoln High School and from Brooklyn University. Theda had an older sister Evelyn who predeceased her.

Theda married Isadore Nahamies in 1947 but they later divorced. Theda obtained her Bachelor's degree in French and a Master's degree in Education. She became a teacher in the New York City school system. She taught 6th grade and French. She was strict but she inspired her students to excel in their studies. She received many letters of appreciation from her grateful students later on in their lives.

Theda loved the arts - theater and opera. She loved to travel especially to France where she furthered her French studies during her summer breaks from teaching. She loved poetry and literature and was a member of the Jane Austen Society. She was an avid Scrabble player and a cat lover. Her love of books and history was evidenced by her 19 year tenure as a volunteer in the library of the American Museum of Natiural History.

She is survived by her daughter Nina Nahamies Marano and her husband Fred Marano and their two children Madeline Marano and Mariette Marano. The funeral was held on October 10, 2012 at New Mount Lebanon Cemetery in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th Street, New York, NY 10024-5192.
