CLOSE--Michael J. January 24, 1943 - February 7, 2013, an attorney and CEO of Balmer Parc LLC, passed away late Thursday evening in Key Biscayne, FL; he was 70. Formerly of Greenwich, CT, Mr. Close and his wife, Nancy, traveled between their home in Sarasota, FL and New York City. Mr. Close was born January 24, 1943, in Sandusky, OH to Robert J. Close and Mary Lee Graefe Close. He received a BA from Lafayette College and a J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan. He practiced law with Dewey Ballantine from 1968 until 1996, as a senior tax partner. Mr. Close later served as President and CEO of Balmer Parc LLC, trustee of the Esther M. Mertz Trust and Chairman of Tax Review in New York City. He also held positions on the boards of the First Citizens Banc Corp of Sandusky, OH and the Asolo Repertory Theater of Sarasota, FL. In addition to his beloved wife, Nancy, he is survived by his daughters, Christie and Karen, a grandson, Benjamin, his brother, David, and sisters, Stephanie and Candace. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 20th in New York City. All are welcome to attend. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in his memory to either of two charities very dear to Michael: the Bluefish Boosters, Inc. (bluefishswimclub.com) or The Heritage Foundation (heritage.org).
