WINGATE--Ardis Swenson, died at home in Bronxville, New York on May 4 at age 106 and six months. Born in Zumbrota, Minnesota, on November 1, 1906, Ardis was a long-time resident of New York City and Lloyd Harbor, Long Island, and the widow of Henry S. Wingate (1905-1982), former Chairman and C.E.O. of International Nickel Co. of Canada, Ltd. A 1928 graduate of Carleton College, she married Harry on September 11, 1929, and was active in The Blue Hill Troupe in New York from 1937 to 1954, singing lead soprano roles in many Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. With Harry at her side for fifty-three years, she raised two sons, Henry K. Wingate (Otis, Massachusetts) and William P. Wingate (Sheboygan, Wisconsin). Survivors also include Hank's two sons, Peter H. Wingate (Denver, Colorado) and Robert H. Wingate (Tarrytown, New York) together with Rob's wife, Sandra, and their children Samantha and Nicholas; Bill's wife, Anne H. Wingate, and their son, William J. Wingate (Santa Clarita, California); and Ardis' housekeeper of 45 years, Mary B. Clarke, who became her steadfast caregiver, companion, and friend. The family and close friends will gather for a private graveside service.
