BERKOVITCH--Boris Samuel, titan, wit, intellect, departed this world on May 23, 2013 in Santa Fe, NM. He was 92. Born in Odessa, Russia, he immigrated to New York as a boy with parents Samuel and Pauline (Kitaer) Berkovitch. He honed his vast knowledge of history at George Washington High School, earned his bachelor's degree at New York University, and enlisted in the US Marine Corps as a private in 1942. He attained the rank of Captain during two tours of duty that included combat at Roi-Namur in the Marshall Islands in 1944. He earned the LLB from Columbia Law School in 1949. After working in politics and as deputy superintendent of the New York State Department of Banking, Berkovitch joined Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. as a vice president in 1966. He retired in 1986 as vice chairman of the board. He enjoyed a 51-year marriage to Barbara Ellen Sinclair Berkovitch. Barbara pre-deceased him in 2011. He is survived by his loving daughter, Ellen Berkovitch, of Santa Fe, and stepdaughter Joanne VanAllsburg, of Dublin, Ohio. A celebration of his life will occur on July 20th in Santa Fe.
