FRANK KARELSEN Obituary

KARELSEN--Frank E. III (born February 24, 1927 - died August 27, 2013) was a fourth generation New Yorker who graduated from The Ethical Culture and Fieldston School, Columbia University and Yale Law School. A retired senior partner of the law firm of Kurzman, Karelsen and Frank, he was a beloved and devoted husband of Ursula Steiner Karelsen-who died in 2007-father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He adored the law, Sinatra, Ellington, Armstrong, Durante, "Singin' in the Rain", baseball, politics, the theater and chocolate milkshakes. He is survived by his son Franklin, his two daughters, Juliet and Eva, and his five grandchildren. Contributions in his memory should be made to the Ramapo Anchorage Camp for Children or the Ethical Culture Fieldston School, organizations to which he dedicated his energies and care.

As a family friend and former paralegal at Kurzman Karelsen and Frank, I would like to send my family's heartfelt condolences to the Karelsen family. Frank inspired me to go to law school and to become a lawyer as a result of my experience working at Kurzman Karelsen and Frank. He was a special person--a great human being and brilliant lawyer who truly made a difference in the world. He was a wonderful family man, as well, and raised two wonderful children. Our thoughts and prayers to the wonderful Karelsen Family and to his friends.

I worked with Frank for many years at Kurzman and am sad to learn of his recent passing. My husband and I have fond memories of visting with he and Ursula in Cold Spring and attending the Thanksgiving Day parade at the apartment. We send our deepest sympathies, love and prayers to the Karelsen family.
