EDEL--Candace Kim. (1943-2013). Professor Edel, Kim to her friends, passed away peacefully on August 30th, to join her beloved husband Matthew. She leaves behind sons Nathan Keir, Gareth, Stephan, daughters-in-laws Marie and Helene, and a granddaughter Nadia. She leaves too many she deeply loved to list completely; a few are Dene, Byron, Cameron, Dana, Suzy, Trudy, Debby and Teddy, David and Jeffrey, Ellen and Joel, Laurie, Jean. She spent her youth as a cowgirl in the rural west with her mother Lorraine, and graduated high school in Laramie, WY, then from UC Berkeley. Kim married Matthew Edel in 1973 and settled in Sunnyside, Queens. She put her whole heart into everything she did. Prior to her academic career, she acted in theater, served in the Peace Corps, and participated in protests and social movements from the 60s until her death. For more than twenty years, she applied her compassion and intelligence as professor, teaching at CUNY Queens College (where she founded the Women's Center) as well as Fordham University.
