HERMAN GLATT Obituary

GLATT--Herman L. A founder of the law firm of Stutman, Treister & Glatt, and a luminary in the field of bankruptcy and corporate restructuring, died on September 8 at sea just offshore of Charleston, SC. Mr. Glatt was on a cruise with his wife celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. He was 84. Mr. Glatt was an innovator in his field and widely-regarded for his creative approach to problem solving. He served as Chairperson of the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the Business and Banking Section of the American Bar Association, and was a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. Mr. Glatt also taught at the University of Southern California School of Law, and served as an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University School of Law. Mr. Glatt was born in New York on May 3, 1929. In his youth, he attended Franklin & Marshall College, UCLA and the Harvard Law School. While attending law school, Mr. Glatt served in the Army and was stationed in England during the Korean War. In 1955, he joined the firm now known as Stutman, Treister & Glatt, which specializes in business bankruptcy and corporate restructuring, and he remained with the firm for more than fifty years. Mr. Glatt was a nationally-known leader in the field of corporate reorganization, having represented clients such as Itel Corporation, Storage Technology, Doskocil/Wilson Foods, the Hunt Brothers, John DeLorean, and the Public Service Company of New Hampshire. Aside from his love of law, Mr. Glatt was an avid sports fan. Being from New York, he was a lifelong Yankees fan. He was also a long-time devoted supporter of UCLA Bruin athletics. He spent the majority of his later years traveling the world, and developed a true passion for ocean cruises. During his travels, he enjoyed sampling diverse cuisines and developed a palate for fine wines. He also was a voracious reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. He valued his friends, family, and had a love of fine art. Mr. Glatt is survived by his wife Jeanne, and their children Wendy Glatt, Russell (and Mercy) Glatt, Tina-Marie (and Denis) Gauthier, Jessica Glatt, Adam Glatt, Darla White, and Scott (and Alissa Bach) White; and five grandchildren: Chloe Gauthier; Dillon Timmer; and Aidan, Eva, and Gunnar White.
