ROBERT J. BULL

BULL--Robert Jehu. The Drew University community is deeply saddened by the passing of Robert Jehu Bull of Madison, NJ., a retired Drew University professor of church history and archaeologist in the Middle East who died of West Nile disease at the age of 92. He was the devoted husband of Drew President Vivian Bull and father of two sons, Camper, a 1991 Drew alumnus, and Carlson. Kind, funny, and wise, he left an impressive legacy in both his fields. Dr. Bull, who was ordained in the United Methodist Church, came to Drew's Theological School in 1955 and began his archaeological work with the Drew-McCormick expedition to Tell Balata in Jordan the same year. He served as director of the Joint Expedition to Caesarea Maritima in Israel, the site of an ancient city, from 1971 until 1996. He inspired hundreds of students with his passion for archaeology and enthusiasm for the study of history, and we shall not forget him.
