STAVIS--Eugene B., a lover of film who taught cinema history for 30 years at the School of Visual Arts and worked with some of the entertainment industry's most revered names throughout his 50-plus year career, died on December 30, 2013 after a short illness. He was 70 years old. He is survived by a brother, Hillel Stavis; a sister, Laurel Stavis; two nephews, Steven Harper and Myles Stavis, and a niece, Lily Jane Stavis. Mr. Stavis was a driving force in the opening of the SVA Theater on West 23rd Street. He was consistently rated by his students as one of the school's most popular and beloved professors.
