My condolences to Rosalyn and Dan. I only met Sherman once, it was in his final days. He gave me a tour of his studio despite his weakness. He impressed me with his works, his conversation, his warmth and his interest in ME, his nurse for one day. I could tell he was a very good man and I was proud to have met him. Enjoy your Journey Mr. Drexler.

I loved talking with you Sherman; you had such a youthful yet intelligent view of any subject. I truly felt a unique kinship with you-- Thanks for your wonderful art, colorful personality and excellent demeanor.

Sherman was a terrific and under rated artist who was always generous in helping other artists.. I knew him for forty years and always found him to be an interesting and wonderful friend.

So Sherman has gone… after such brave life-struggles. His warmth and ability to enjoy whatever little fun life permitted him were amazing. I'm selfishly glad he outlived Richard, who would have taken his death to heart and wouldn't have been able to bear it. On my walls are several drawings Sherman created. They emit a faint glow of spirituality. Wonderful pieces of art that always help me to be more gentle and tolerant toward our failings and frailty. Richard and Sherman--Sherman and Richard. Enjoy your reunion!

As my sister Priscilla has already so eloquently observed, good old Sherb was a fixture of our childhood. An intimate and stalwart friend of our father, Richard Gilman, Sherman and I developed our own relationship through our mutual love of art. I will miss him.

Sherman was the most loyal and dear friend imaginable to my father, the late Richard Gilman, and a wonderfully warm, funny, smart, and kind man who enriched my childhood with his good humor and wisdom. I am so sad to hear of his passing. In consolation, I like to think of Sherb (as my father often called him) up in heaven right in time for football season and a joyful reunion with his best friend Dick.

Many students at the High School of Music and Art in the 60s remember Sherman Drexler as their favorite art teacher--I certainly do.

I remember Sherman with delight from his (too few) days teaching at the HS of Music and Art. He was an inspiration to his students and a provocative voice in the teachers' room!

Sherman was a wonderful friend to me for the past 25 years. I loved his art, his views on art, movies and life and his vibrant personality...Sherman, you will be missed terribly...

A longtime friend, he will be sorely missed. In one sense he never aged, always looking at things freshly. An artist by profession, in many respects he resembled the renaissance man, with well-thought out, challenging opinions on a wide variety of subjects. He was kind and generous, and probably the most interesting friend I'll ever have.
