VICTOR S. FRIEDMAN

FRIEDMAN--Victor Stanley, died August 12th, at the age of 81, after a courageous five year struggle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and loved ones. Victor was born to Rose and Harry on May 9, 1933 in New York City. In 1941, the family moved to Los Angeles, where he attended Beverly Hills High and was an accomplished member of the debate squad. After graduating from Harvard in 1954, he attended Yale Law School, where he was elected to the editorial board of The Yale Law Journal. Shortly after law school, Victor joined the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department in Washington D.C. In 1961 he returned to NYC to work as an anti-trust litigator for the law firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. He made partner at the age of 33, and soon became a leading attorney in his field. In 1974 he successfully argued before the US Supreme Court in the case of Dunhill vs. Cuba. He remained at Fried Frank, a job he loved, until his retirement in 1999. After retirement Victor, volunteered his time as a mediator and as a math tutor to high school students. He devoted much of his time to his many passions, including the piano, travel, scrabble, duplicate bridge, reading, and his loving nine children and grandchildren. Victor's intellectual curiosity, passion for life, and deep love for his friends and family will be missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Victoria Schonfeld; his first wife, Sara Ann Friedman; his five beloved children Eric, Diana, Michael, Jared, and Remi; and his four adored grandchildren Naomi, Jordi, Ilan, and Liza. Services at 11:30am, Thursday, Plaza Jewish Community Chapel 630 Amsterdam Avenue. Donations to the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Tutoring Star Learning at Goddard Riverside Community Center.
